Close to Santa Clarita, not inside it
Stevenson Ranch is unincorporated Los Angeles County. It has a Santa Clarita mailing address and everybody talks about it as part of Santa Clarita, but the city line runs between them. That affects which authority handles permits, code enforcement and local services, and it is the kind of thing that only becomes interesting once you own the house. Ask before you assume.
The housing
Almost all of it is planned hillside development from the late eighties onward, which means newer construction, larger floor plans and homeowners associations on most tracts. It is one of the more expensive addresses in the Santa Clarita Valley, and the schools are a large part of why.
The commute
The 5 is immediately east, which puts Stevenson Ranch at the near end of the Santa Clarita Valley for anyone driving into the San Fernando Valley or beyond. It is the first community you reach coming north over the Newhall Pass, and the last one before the traffic thins out.
