Where the valley got its name
Mission San Fernando Rey de España was founded here in 1797, and the San Fernando Valley is named after it. The mission and Brand Park are still the center of the neighborhood, and they are the reason this corner of the Valley has a different feel from the tracts around it.
The housing
Mostly postwar single-family on comfortable lots, with some larger and newer houses on the rising ground toward the 118. It is a settled, quiet neighborhood that tends to hold its value well relative to the areas immediately around it, and inventory is usually thin.
Hospitals and freeways
Providence Holy Cross Medical Center is here and employs a great many people in the north Valley. The 405 ends its Valley run just west, the 118 crosses the top of the neighborhood and the 5 is minutes east, which makes this one of the easier places in the Valley to commute out of in any direction.

What is there to see in Mission Hills?
The San Fernando Mission and Brand Park, which sit at the center of the neighborhood. The mission is the oldest building in the Valley and the reason the Valley carries the name it does.
