A neighborhood named after another one
The name came from Winnetka, Illinois, by way of a poultry colony that operated here in the nineteen-twenties, before the tracts arrived. What is left of that history is mostly the name and the street it sits on. What the neighborhood is now is residential, quiet and largely built between the late forties and the sixties.
The housing
Postwar single-family on regular lots, street after street of it, with relatively little commercial property inside the neighborhood. It is one of those areas people move to for the ordinary reasons: a yard, a driveway, somewhere the children can ride a bike. Prices have historically tracked between Reseda to the east and Canoga Park to the west.
